Art Inspired by Anguilla

Caribbean-based contemporary artist

Years of Training and Exceptional Art

Carmel Gumbs’ early exposure to art classes during childhood laid the foundation for his proficiency with various mediums such as ceramics, dyes, and paints.

His dedication and passion culminated in the completion of a rigorous four-year study at the Ani Art Academy in July 2020, where he specialized in the fine arts of drawing and painting. This intensive training helped refine his techniques and nurture his talent, equipping Gumbs with a profound understanding of artistry and realism.

Testimonials

“When we decided to create a wine with James Beard Award winner Shelley Lindgren in honor of Malliouhana’s 40th Anniversary, there was only one artist that we considered for the label art - Carmel Gumbs. His painting of Malliouhana is so precise and realistic that it’s often mistaken as a photograph by our guests.”

— Laura Rose, Storey Hotel Management Group

“Carmel Gumbs designed and painted a mural inspired by the turquoise waters and pristine beaches of Long Bay Beach for our fitness center at Long Bay Villas. Without fail, guests comment on how much they love the energy that the mural brings to the space. I couldn’t be happier with the work and the experience of working with Carmel.”

— Patricia Bygrave, Long Bay Villas

“It’s nearly impossible to find an artist who still applies classic oil paint on wood techniques like were used by Da Vinci - even more rare to find one who can use those techniques to create breathtaking contemporary pieces while honoring those traditions. Carmel’s work has a mesmerizing and timeless quality.”

— Michael Casey
